5.4 Stepper axis - testing
This section describes the method for testing a stepper axis. The stepper control is an open
loop system so no tuning is necessary.
5.4.1 Testing the output
This section tests the operation and direction of the output. It is recommended that the system
is initially tested and tuned with the motor shaft disconnected from other machinery .
1. Check t hat the Drive enable button is
pressed (down).
2. In the Toolbox, click the Edit & Debug icon.
3. Click in the Command window .
4. Type:
JOG.0=2
where 0 is t he ax is ( s t epper output) t o be
test ed and 2 is t he speed.
The JOG command spec ifies the s peed in
user units per sec ond, so the speed is
affected by SCALE (sec tion 5.3.1). If y ou have not selec ted a s cale, t he command
JOG.0=2 will cause rotation at only 2 half s t eps per sec ond, so it may be nec es sary t o
incr eas e t his figure s ignif ic antly, to 200 f or example. I f you hav e selec ted a sc ale that
prov ides user units of rev olutions (as desc r ibed in sec t ion 5.3.1) JOG.0=2 w ill cause
rotation at 2 revolut ions per second. If there appears to be no driv e output , c hec k that
jumper JP1 has not been set to disable the outputs - s ee section 4.5.3.
5. To repeat the tests for reverse moves, type:
JOG.0 = -2
6. To remove the demand and stop the test, type:
STOP.0
