BCBSGa/BCBSHP supports the Leapfrog Group’s efforts to promote patient safety in
hospitals and annually reminds hospitals in Georgia to complete the Leapfrog
surveys.
If your hospital has not completed the survey, you can do so by logging on to the
Leapfrog Group Web site at www.leapfroggroup.org and completing the Web survey.
Partnership for Health and Accountability: For a Healthy Georgia
The Partnership for Health and Accountability (PHA) is a statewide effort, initiated with
the funding of GHA, an Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, that brings
together all the stakeholders in health to share data, resources and expertise in order
to provide a complete picture of health in Georgia.

PHA sponsors “Patient Safety
Week” annually and published “The State of the Health of Georgia 2002 Update.” This
looked at six indicators of health for Georgia citizens and listed actions to be taken to
improve each set of indicators. Indicators included:
Ambulatory Care Sensitive Conditions
Cancer
Leading Causes of Death
Maternal and Child Health
Mental Health
Notifiable Health Conditions and Vaccine Preventable Diseases
A Diabetes Special Interest Group (SIG) began meeting early in 2003, with a mission
“To Monitor, Evaluate and Enhance the Inpatient Care in the State of Georgia”.
BCBSGa/BCBSHP is a participant of this SIG and will work closely with both network
hospitals and the SIG to improve inpatient diabetic care.
BCBSGa/BCBSHP serves on the Quality Patient Safety Committee, which supports
efforts to increase the quality of patient care and safety with such measures as timing
of antibiotic administration after admission for pneumonia.
