UltraSeriesamplifiersareexpertlydesignedandbuilttoprovideyearsoftrouble‐freeperformance.Mostproblemsthat
occurcanusuallybesolvedbycheckingyoursetupormakingsurethattheaudioandvideocomponentsconnectedtothe
amplifierareonandfullyoperational.
NOTE:Beforeturningonyouramplifierforthefirsttime,besuretocheck:
1.TheBalanced/Unbalancedselectorsforeachamplifierchannel(locatedonthebackpanel).Iftheselectiondoesnotmatch
theconnection,thechannelwillnotwork.Makesurethatyouareselectingthepropertypeofconnectionforthecablesyou
areusing.
2.ThestatusandmeterLEDselectorsonthebackpanel.Iftheseareinthe‘off’position,thestatusandmeterLEDswillnot
light.
Thefollowinginformationwillhelpyoudealwithothercommonsetupproblemsyoumayexperienceduringnormaluseof
yourunit.Ifproblemspersist,contactEmotivasupportforhelp.
NoSound(fromoneormorespeakersconnectedtotheamplifier)
• Speakercablesmayhavecomeundone.Turnoffyoursystemandcheckthecables,tightentheamplifierand
speakerbindingposts.
• Damagedaudiocable.
• Thepreamplifiervolumelevelislowforthechannelsconcerned.Recheckthepreamplifiercalibrationprocedure.
• ApreamplifierMuteswitchmaybeon,anexternalprocessorlooporatapemonitorloopisengaged.
• Checkthatyourpreamplifierorsourceisrunningthecorrectsurroundmode.Maybeitissetfor2‐channelstereo
whenyouwereexpecting5.1surroundsound.
• Checkifanymissingchannelshavebeenturnedoffinapreamplifiersetupmenu.Forexample,thecenteramplifier
channelwillnotreceiveasignalifthepreamplifierhasbeensetto“Phantom”.
• Checkmainpowerswitchtomakesurethatitisinonposition(1).
• Aninternalfuseon theunitmayhaveblown.ContactEmotivaSupportforassistance.
Theamplifiershutsdownoftenorthelinecircuitbreakertripsoften
• Checkthatthepositiveandnegativespeakerwiresarenotshortedtogether.
• Makesurethatnospeakersareshortedinternally.Ifyouhaveanohm‐meter,disconnectthespeakerwiresand
measuretheresistancebetweenthespeaker’spositiveandnegativeterminals.
• Measureallspeakersandchecktheirimpedancespecifications.Ifnecessary,reviewthe“SeriesandParallel
Connections”sectioninthismanual.
• Ifyouhaveconnectedspeakersinparallel,theoverallimpedancemaybetoolow.Itisrecommendedthatyou
rearrangethespeakersinseriestoincreasetheoverallimpedance,thustakingsomeloadofftheamplifier.
• Makesuretheamplifierhasgoodventilationandisnotoverheating.Allowgoodairflowunderneathwherever
possible.Iftheamplifierisinaclosedrack,openuptherearpaneloruseaquietfanforimprovedventilation.
