Yourpowerinverterisequippedwitha20ampspadetypefuse.Withreasonablecareitshouldnotbenecessary
toreplacethesefuses.Mostblownfusesaretheresultofreversepolarityorashortcir cuitwithintheapplianceor
equipmentbeingoperated.Ifthefusehappenstoblow,disconnect
theapplianceorequipmentimmediately,find
thesourceoftheproblem,repairit,andtheninstallanewfuse.
SourceofPower
Mostautomobileandmarinebatterieswillprovideanamplepowersupplytotheinverterfor30to60minutes
evenwhentheengineisoff. Actualtimemayvarydependingupontheageandconditionofthebattery,andthe
powerdemandbeingplacedonitbytheequipmentbeingoperated
withtheinverter.
Ifyoudecidetousetheinverterwhi le theengineisoff,werecommendthatyoustarttheengineeveryhourand
letitrunforapproximately10minutestorechargethebattery.Wealsorecommendthatthedevicepluggedinto
theinv erterbeturnedOFFbefore
startingthevehicleengine.
Althoughitisnotnecessarytodisconnecttheinverterwhenturningovertheengine,itmaymomentarilyceaseto
operateasthebatteryvoltagedecreases.
Whenthein verterisnotsupplyingpower,itdrawsverylowamperagefromthebatteryandmaybeleftconnected
tothe
batteryforuptothreehours.
However,werecommendtheinverteralwaysbedisconnectedwhennotinuse.
InverterProtectionFeatures
TheREDLEDIndicatorlightwillturnonandtheinverterwillturnitselfoffautomaticallywhen:
1. Thepowerinputfromthebatterydropsto9.5volts.(Whenthepowerinputdropsto10.5volts,analarmwill
soundforanextendedperiod).
2. Thepowerinputfromthebatteryexceeds
15.5volts.
3. Thecontinuousdrawoftheequipmentorappliancebeingoperatedexceeds200watts.
4. Thesurgedrawoftheequipmentorappliancebeingoperatedexceeds400watts.
5. Thecircuittemperatureexceeds165°F.
Note
Theinverterisequippedwithacoolingfanwhichisdesignedtoruncontinuouslywhiletheinverteris
operating.Automaticshutdowncausedbyhighcircuittemperatureswilloccurwhenthecoolingfanis
unabletomaintainacoolenoughtemperatureforsafeoperationoftheinverter.
Inthe
eventofautomaticshutdownorcontinuousaudiblealarm,turntheinverterrockerswitchtothe
OFF(0)positionuntilthesourceoftheproblemhasbeendeterminedandresolved.
HowPowerInvertersWork
Thereare twostages inwhich apower in verterchangesthe 12voltDC (or battery)powerinto110VAC
(householdcurrent).
STAGE1:
TheinverterusesaDCtoDCconvertertoincreasetheDCinputvoltagefromthepowersourceto145voltsDC.
STAGE2:
Theinverter
thenconvertsthehighvoltageDCinto110VAC(householdcurrent),usingadvancedMOSFET(Metal
oxideSemiconductorFieldEffectTransistor)transistorsinafullbridgeconfiguration.Thisdesignprovidesallour
