I can't adjust the gate wider...

The gate is complicated and I have no manual. How do you expand it?

5 You can expand and contract the gate by pulling the blue tab over to the left and releasing the locking pin so it is completely vertical, and unhinging the metal peice. The whole locking pin mechanism needs to move in order to change the width. We needed a blade screw driver and a hammer to move ours so it was narrower. Hope that my explanation makes sense.
