Sorting
Sort counters into different sets by
attribute, such as shape, color, size, and
so on.
What is Missing?
Place several counters in front of a child.
The child should study them, and then
close both eyes while you remove one of
the counters. See if the child can tell you
which piece is missing. Vary the level
of difficulty by adding more counters
or by removing more than one counter
each time.
Story Problems
Use the ocean counters to create and
solve story problems that involve
addition and subtraction. Say: “Four
whales swim in the ocean. One whale
swims away. How many whales are
left?” Perform this activity with many
different quantities, ocean animals and
story scenarios.
